Fun Facts:
This film was based on director Peter Sohn's life in which he immigrated to the United States from Korea. Peter and his family did not speak English and settled into the Bronx where they opened a grocery store named Sohn's Fruits and Vegetables, similar to Ember's family in the film.
For this film Pixar had to upgrade and buy more computers for this film. There are over 151,000 cores in use for this film in three large rooms on the Pixar campus. For perspective, Toy Story (1995) had 294 cores, Monsters, Inc (2001) had 672 cores, and Finding Nemo (2003) had 923 cores. This is a massive amount of computing power.
The film took 7 years to make both in the studio and at home. Story Artist Jason Katz shared that the story team finished their part while working remotely at home.
